A transparent, composite school quality rating based entirely on official government data. No opinions, no pay-to-play — just data parents can trust.
Every school in the UK receives an EduNavigate Score from 0 to 10, calculated by combining four official data sources with fixed, transparent weights. The score is designed to give parents a quick, trustworthy indicator of overall school quality.
When a school is missing data in one or more categories (for example, a new school without published exam results), the weights are redistributed proportionally across the available components. This means schools are never penalised for missing data — they are simply scored on what is available. A confidence indicator shows whether the score uses full or partial data.
The score also maps to a letter grade (A+ through E) to make comparisons intuitive. Schools rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted with strong Progress 8 scores and good attendance typically achieve an A or A+ rating.
The official quality judgement from Ofsted (or ISI for independent schools). Outstanding = 10, Good = 7.5, Requires Improvement = 4, Inadequate = 1.5.

For secondary schools, this uses the Progress 8 score — a value-added measure showing how much progress pupils make between KS2 and KS4 compared to similar pupils nationally. For primary schools, we use the percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing, and maths combined at KS2.

The overall absence rate, where lower is better. A school with 0% absence scores 10, while 15%+ absence scores 0. Good attendance strongly correlates with academic outcomes and indicates a well-managed school community.

The percentage of pupils who continue into education, employment, or training after leaving the school. This measures how well the school prepares young people for their next steps — whether that is sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, or university.

The EduNavigate Score is a data-driven indicator designed for guidance purposes only. It should never be the sole factor in choosing a school.
We strongly recommend visiting schools, speaking with staff, and considering your child's individual needs, learning style, and wellbeing alongside any data.
Schools cannot pay to influence their EduNavigate Score. The methodology uses only publicly available government data and applies the same formula to every school equally.
Scores are recalculated whenever the underlying data is updated. Ofsted ratings are refreshed after each new inspection. Performance data is updated annually when the Department for Education publishes new results (typically January for KS4/KS5, December for KS2). Attendance data is updated termly.
