Moving to the UK or considering a UK school from abroad? Here's everything you need to know — from visa requirements to choosing between state and independent schools.
For children aged 4–17 attending an independent school. The school must be a licensed sponsor. Visa allows staying for the duration of the course.
For students aged 16+ studying at a further/higher education level. Can work part-time during term (up to 20 hours/week).
You have settled status, pre-settled status, or an existing family/work visa that allows dependants to study. EU/EEA citizens with settled status can access state schools.
International boarding pupils must have a UK-based guardian — an adult who can act in loco parentis. The guardian collects the child during half-terms and exeats, makes medical decisions in emergencies, and is the school's point of contact. Schools can advise on approved guardianship agencies.
